Marietta
Bellamy Bibbs, BA, RPSGT: Marietta
began her career in polysomnography at Baylor
College of Medicine, Houston Texas back in
1976. In one of the first sleep labs in the
country, she worked closely with Dr. Ismet
Karacan and other well known sleep researchers,
Dr. Catesby Ware and Dr. Max Hirshkowitz.
She was one of the early technologists to
be registered by the BRPT in 1982 and continued
to work in the Houston area at the VA Medical
Center and Baylor College of Medicine until
2005. From there she moved to Florida to partner
and develop Sleep Management Centers, LLC
and Apnea Management Services, LLC. |
Marietta has been intimately involved in education
throughout her career in polysomnography.
She has trained countless sleep technologists,
fellows, residents, medical students and physicians
during her tenure at Baylor and the VA. Marietta
has published numerous articles and has participated
in meetings and made presentations on polysomnography
all over the world.
She has also remained steadfast in education
within polysomnography, initially with the
Education Committee of The Association of
Polysomnographic Technologists (APT) and continuing
with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic
Technologists (BRPT), where she has served
in many capacities.
Marietta believes that the pathway to maintaining
a strong profession in polysomnography is
through superior and sophisticated education
for sleep technologists. This can only be
achieved by providing the best educators to
train the technologists of the future in the
rapidly growing field of sleep medicine. She
has been able to put together an influential
faculty at the Florida Sleep School that will
ensure the technologists who choose to take
the courses here are provided a strong background
as they enter the field of polysommography. |
